Meteorite Beads
In 2022 at the Chalke Valley History Festival, Ian Thackray and Will Sherman replicated the earliest ever iron artifacts, 9 beads forged from meteoric iron. Using stone tools similar to those used 5200 years in Egypt and using a piece of the Gebel Kamil meteorite that landed in the Sahara desert, 5000 years ago.
Over the course of the week, Ian and Will forged meteorite from the a 75g nugget into flat sheets before rolling them into beads ranging from 14mm in diameter all the way down to the smallest bead, 3mm in diameter.
