The History Smith

Having developed a fascination with the past from an early age, Ian has successfully combined his passion for history with his profession and can now offer an accurate view of blacksmithing from a variety of historical time periods. Using tools and equipment either made by Ian or, in the case of his World War 1 display, tools from the era itself, Ian is able to demonstrate and talk about the history of blacksmithing from the early Iron Age right through to the end of World War 1 and the start of the art deco period.

If you would like to see Ian in action then he can be found at;

Blenheim Palace Jousting Weekend

Sherborne Castle Country Fayre

The Vintage Nostalgia Weekend

Chalke Valley History Festival

The Great Dorset Steam Fair

As well as these shows, Ian also does a lot of community outreach programmes with various

archaeological firms including Breaking Ground Heritage, Operation Nightingale and

Wessex Archaeology and also makes educational visits.

Ian has also appeared on Viral History, a youtube history channel talking about

Iron Age blacksmithing.
